This Exhibition “The Climbing Sun Again Is Wakening the World...” is dedicated for Kristijonas Donelaitis 300th birth anniversary. It is consisted of artworks specially ordered according to this theme from twelve artists, and the other painters’ who wanted to participate in the exhibition.

The exhibition motto – Donelaitis and his epoch, his  literary heritage, interpretation of “The Seasons” (“Metai”). This poem is included into the list of European literature masterpieces. 2014 declared as K. Donelaitis year in Lithuania, because of his 300th  birth anniversary. K. Donelaitis and M. Mažvydas are two big personalities that connect Lithuanian historical memory with Prussia. For centuries Lithuanian people lived near denationalized and now extincted Prussian nation, the first Lithuanian book was printed in Prussia. It is inconceivable to imagine our nation’s literary heritage Without K. Donelaitis.

How artists treat K. Donelaitis, his creation and his era today? How we manage to look at it through the dust of time, brushing away the scholastic varnish laid since the school bench? The most interesting Lithuanian artist from the middle and younger generations are trying to answer these questions. We hope that the art of these painters will broaden and enrich the viewer's self-imposed personality of K. Donelaitis, the image of his art, time and will remind us the importance of our historic heritage.

This exhibition is a part of an ongoing project, which will be held for four years, until 2014 when we will celebrate the poet’s anniversary. The huge exhibition of sculpture, paintings and graphic art will be held, a catalogue will be released.
